Retired Air Force officer (1970-1990).
C-141B aircraft
Jet-transport pilot, instructor & examiner. 4000 hours flight time in C-141A & B models.
On April 9, 2002 the last C-141s at McChord AFB were retired. I was there for the ceremony.

Travel to some 26 countries and other postage-stamp places: Nearly every US state, as well as Canada, Wake Island, Johnson Island, Guam, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Diego Garcia, Oman, Iran, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Spain, Germany, Norway, England, Iceland, Greenland, the Azores, Honduras, Panama.

World-wide, all runways are long and skinny, unless you are doing something SERIOUSLY wrong!

About 260 hours flight time in T-37 & T-38 trainers.
T-38A aircraft
The T-38 is a supersonic trainer. I took this picture at about 41,000 feet in spring 1971. (Yes, I was in the OTHER plane at the time.)

I've flown light aircraft, too -- licensed since 1969.

Expert in Strategic and Theater Airlift Operations and Command & Control within the Joint Operations arena. Liaison duty with the US Army. Weapons Controller and liaison duty with the Philippine Air Force at two isolated sites on Luzon Island.

(In response to a frequent question: No, I don't miss all the travel. It's nice to know when I will be home. I served my country for 20 years and that is sufficient.)

Active in the computer field.

Washington state native.

My wife, Julie, and I live on a lake with three fine dogs and a boat. (Click thumbnails for larger pix.)

small dog jpgLarry (formerly Larry-Boy)  1999-
Golden Retriever. A family had this wonderful dog for nearly 3 years, and their love and care for him shows. When they had to move in 2002, they looked to have him adopted. That is how this handsome animal came into my life. The loss of Alex (below) had left a pretty big hole in my heart, and Larry fit just fine. He's chewed up lots of unauthorized things and taken an unscheduled dip in the lake twice, but he is much better now... usually...

[shown here leaning on Larry's butt]
Georgie (Georgia Rose or George to her friends) 1996-
Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Like most corgis, George insists she's not a dog at all. Indeed, she seems to think she's a human who doesn't much like dogs. It only took her once to learn not to fall into the lake again. At 9 she began to show signs of Degenerative Myelopathy and Hip Dysplasia, and we have gotten her a cart so she can continue walking.Julie has had "G" since she was 3 months old.

Harper (Tafarnwr Afara Happily Everafter) 2005-
Cardigan Welsh Corgi. Harper was adopted from a breeder on nearby Vashon Island. She has worked her way into our lives and chewed nearly everything in her path. It was only one day after my most recent knee surgery when we spent hours searching for her -- finding her at the lake under the dock in a 'cave' I didn't know was there. A week later when she went missing that was the first place we looked, and there she was.

Rest In Peace...

small dog jpg Alex (Alexander the Adequate)  1987-2002
Golden Retriever. Found him in my geraniums when he was a pup in 1987. Someone had left a whole litter scattered around town. Well, someone didn't deserve to have the great dog Alex turned out to be. Although my folks had dogs all the time, they were never "my" dogs, so Alex was my first. He learned to catch a Frisbee and was my constant companion. Alex was a cancer survivor from 1999, but he began slowing down soon after. In 2002 I had to put him down. I still miss him...

small dog jpgNiBan ("Nee-bahn" - loosely translated Japanese for "Number 2".)  1990-2005
Yellow Labrador/German Shepherd (?) mix. Pound puppy. Got her at 3 months of age to keep Alex company when I was at work. This golden fur-ball grew into a sweet dog. She was devoted to Alex and quite willing to be the lady of the house. Unfortunately she was a "recreational barker" and I had to take steps to quiet her. She doesn't know she can't bark, and peace reigns. She was with me for 15 years...

lilliLilli   ~1992-2004
Jack Russell Terrier. Lilli was my parents' last dog, beginning in 1995 until they passed away in 1999. She came to live with us until 2002...
